A 45-year-old woman, Beatrice Amo, who is heavily pregnant, has been arrested by the Suhum Police in the Eastern Region for allegedly torturing and maltreating her 13-year-old stepson.
According to reports, the stepmother has been subjecting the boy to inhumane treatment. She got arrested when the boy was hospitalized at Suhum Government Hospital after he was said to have been beaten up by her for allegedly stealing her GHC300.
The Suhum Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joseph Owusu, confirming the case to the media over the weekend, said the matter had been brought before the police and investigation had commenced into the allegations.
The boy also alleged that his stepmother always locked him up in a room for hours and sometimes almost a day without food and water for proving stubborn or going against her orders.
He further alleged that he was taken through physical torture most at times, which had left multiple bruises around parts of his body. He added that the stepmother sometimes smeared pepper around his genitals and other parts of his body.
