President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday presented 40 Cobra II armoured personnel carriers to the Ghana Armed Forces, reiterating that the New Patriotic Party government is a promise-keeping one.

The brief ceremony took place at the Burma Camp in Accra.

President Akufo-Addo said since he took over as President of Ghana, the government has been working to satisfy the logistical and personal needs of the Armed forces.

“And I can say with all confidence that we have achieved modest successes in this endeavour,” he said.,

The last time the President presented equipment and vehicles to the Armed Forces was December 5, 2019 at Burma Camp where the Armed Forces received 33 armoured personnel carriers, 41 assorted Toyota vehicles, three water tankers , one self-loading recovery truck, one refrigeration van and five utility vehicles for waste disposals.

“I did indicate in my address on that day that there was more to come. And as you know by now, the government of the New Patriotic Party is a promise keeping one, and I am here to redeem that pledge,” the President said.

Security threats

According to the President, the new vehicles will ensure that the security threats posed at Ghana’s borders, especially the northern part, are controlled, and provide the necessary protection for the country’s Western and Eastern frontiers.

“Officers, men and women of the Armed Forces, I commend you for the work you are doing on daily basis to protect the territorial integrity and stability of our country. Indeed, my highest commendation goes to all ranks for their outstanding performance in their recent Operation Peace trail, which provided security for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections,” the President said.

He also commended the Armed Forces for providing security at the North Western, Northern and North Eastern borders of the country.

“I urge you to continue to collaborate with the Ministers of National Security, Interior, Foreign Affairs and the Ghana Revenue Authority and as well as all relevant Ministries and Agencies to ensure that we maintain a robust disposition that will deter potential aggressors who may attempt to derail the political and socio-economic gains we have chalked so far,” President Akufo-Addo said.
