Barcelona ended Aston Villa’s perfect start to the UEFA Champions League campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory at the Spotify Camp Nou on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

A first-half goal from teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and a second-half brace from Brazilian forward Raphinha secured the victory for the Spanish champions, who moved ahead of Villa in the league-phase standings.

The result brought an end to Villa’s three-match winning run in the competition and strengthened Barcelona’s push for automatic qualification to the knockout stages.

Yamal Punishes Villa’s Early Mistake

Barcelona made a flying start, taking the lead in the seventh minute after Villa midfielder Joao Gomes misplaced a pass across his own penalty area.

Yamal capitalised on the error, curling the ball beyond goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to give the hosts an early advantage.

The goal marked another milestone for the 19-year-old, who became the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history with 14 goals, surpassing Kylian Mbappé’s previous record of 13.

Despite conceding early, Villa responded positively and created several opportunities to equalise.

Matty Cash and Victor Lindelof saw efforts deflected behind, while Johan Manzambi threatened Barcelona’s goal but failed to convert his chances.

Goalkeeper Joan Garcia also made important interventions to preserve Barcelona’s advantage heading into the interval.

Raphinha Seals Victory

Barcelona doubled their lead seven minutes after the restart when Raphinha’s low effort took a deflection off Pau Torres, wrong-footing Suzuki before finding the net.

The Brazilian struck again in the 64th minute, finishing from close range following excellent work and a well-placed delivery from Joao Cancelo.

The second goal effectively ended Villa’s hopes of a comeback, although the English side continued to push forward in search of a consolation.

Barcelona remained dangerous on the counterattack and threatened to extend their lead, but Suzuki made further saves to prevent a heavier defeat.

The victory also handed Barcelona their first Champions League clean sheet since April 2025, ending a run of 18 European matches without one.

Barcelona Strengthen European Ambitions

The result moved Hansi Flick’s side level with Aston Villa on nine points after four matches, with Barcelona moving ahead in the standings.

It also provided a timely response to Barcelona’s earlier European defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

For Villa manager Unai Emery, the defeat exposed his side’s inability to capitalise on promising attacking opportunities against one of Europe’s most clinical teams.

Villa captain John McGinn acknowledged the quality of the opposition, describing the encounter as an important learning experience for his side.

Barcelona will now turn their attention to Sunday’s La Liga encounter against Atlético Madrid, while Villa will seek to recover from their first Champions League defeat of the season.
