🇬🇭🇬🇭 *A LETTER TO MANASSEH AZURE AWUNI*

Dear Manasseh,
*RE*: EVEN AKUFO-ADDO’S WIFE WILL CHOOSE MAHAMA OVER HER HUSBAND ON THIS.

Sir,
“Let the kite perch and let the eagle perch too. If one says no to the other, let his wings break.” – Chinua Achebe.

It took me nearly 2mins just when I had made up my mind to write to you. Not because I did not know what to say but I did not know where to start from. Indeed, man, you are a person of many colours. One might be quick and wrong to say that, no matter how hard you try to conceal your political colours–you are been exposed by your own comments and writeups as an NDC sympathizer. And may continue, that, as a fine gentlemen, instead of finding something better doing with your life–you have allowed yourself to be used by Asiedu Nketsia, Ofosu Ampofo, Ex. President. John Mahama and their bunch of NDC hoodlums in perpetrating lies and malice as a way to promote their interest. But, that is not the case, man.

Notwithstanding, journalistic ethics teaches us about how suicidal it is once journalists (not forgetting Economists too) are clouded with bias. In the end, you are not the only person affected but the name of the profession either.

I read your works alot. And I must admit that, undoubtedly, you are one of the few hardworking journalists who have lived quite reasonably well. And have refused to sell your conscience for (wapi, kelewele and kakro) pittance.

However, it is now glaring how some of your unsavoury, unguarded and disrespectful comments have all of a sudden taken to lead your profession. Even Akufo Addo’s wife will choose Mahama over her husband on this, is your most recent comment/article against the President.

In that article, you jab the President Nana Addo not to pride himself with free SHS by saying, ‘Any idiot can use taxpayers money to fund free shs…it does not take a genius to implement free shs…..free shs is easy to implement’. You further rather asked the President to tackle corruption cases instead. You then made comparisons between Nana Akufo-Addo and John Mahama using GYEEDA as a case study.

In conclusion, you feel John Mahama did well in tackling corruption especially when he cancelled ten contracts under GYEEDA with the exception of Zoomlion. But, instead of Nana Addo cancelling the fraudulent Zoomlion contract, where the government pays Ghc 500 per sweeper to Zoomlion for its 45,000 workers but the latter only pays a sweeper Ghc 100 and pockets Ghc 400 as management fees (Ghc 18m a month as mgt fee or Ghc 270m a year), which the former promised the people of Ghana, it rather ended up congratulating Joseph Siaw Agyepong, CEO, Zoomlion, for his hardwork.

Man, you have better credits to your name, Typical of such include how you exposed the NDC and their create, loot and share marfiosos. But, now, it’s as if you are making room for others to think otherwise. That, maybe, something went wrong somewhere between you and the NDC. The more reason why you exposed them? Now, it’s becoming strange why you did expose the scandals (Gyeeda, SADA, SUBAH et al) of people you secretly wine with.

As educated as you are, yet you fail to exude the essence of education to especially the Northerners. If free shs was that easy;

1. Why didn’t Mahama implement free shs but said it was not possible?
2. What then should be used to fund free shs if it is not taxes? Personal funding?
3. Are you not yourself an idiot for failing to hold your marriage ceremony in a luxurious environment other than in the North where people could look up to you as a way of seeing the relevance of education knowing very well that education in the North receives very little interest from some Northerners?
4. What has been your personal investment into the education sector?

Sir, you have not been fair to the President considering the amount of money pumped into free shs; 2017–Ghc 484m; 2018- Ghc 1.8billion & 2019 (Ghc 3.3billion). Yet, you had the courage to belittle such a yeoman’s job?

On corruption, permit me to say that as a seasoned journalist knowing what to do yet you decided to run down the effort of the President as a ‘sham’ in the face of corruption, you have on the blink of tarnishing your image. It is unprecedented in the history of our democracy for a President to appoint a man from the opposition political party to take charge of corruption cases. Who does that, Sir? Not even Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore.

Having said this, Dr. Opuni is on trial; Mahama Ayariga, MP, Bawku Central, is on trial; Sedinam Tamakoe, fmr MASLOC CEO, Woyome just lost a case under the Banjul Charter, and other cases soon to commence. Trialling issues of corruption is not like journalism or mere talks/rhetoric. It is a long procedure that deals with gathering of all the necessary facts.

Nana Addo is on course and it will only be fair as a writer to abide with the words of John F. Kennedy that, ‘the highest duty of a writer is to remain true to himself and let the chips fall where they may. In serving his vision of the truth the artist best serves his nation.

It is practically insulting, disrespectful and out of place to belittle a policy which has been praised by many of our fellow Countrymen (and foreigners) due to how pragmatic it has come to save both children and parents from being counted as second and third class citizens. See below;

Etc etc.

Sir, are you not being the biggest idiot for seeing the free shs policy as nothing difficult–when your own Chiefs, instead, have commended the President for free shs?

You claim Akufo-Addo has done nothing as far as fighting corruption is concerned. Wherefore, even his own wife will choose Mahama over him if it’s about who has fought corruption quite impressively. Therefore, you ridicule and associate an innocent woman to something for no reason?

Manasseh, kindly be circumspect in your journalism if you want us to take you seriously. You may criticize but you are reminded to do so with a balanced measure. Kindly take off the bias scale and judge with fairness. But, if you cannot praise the innocent showboy why don’t you simply let him be?

But, just in case, out of your sheer hatred for the President, you are but to belittle his efforts and flagship programs expecting that, he will kowtow to your whims and caprices, then I am sorry–Ghanaians know better.

The next time you make a move, do remember, that, praises come before criticisms. Anything less than that, you will be making a mess out of yourself. But, just in case, you can not help it but to make a mess out of yourself, remember this and do say nothing at all;

Let the kite perch and let the eagle perch too. If one says no to the other, let his wings break.” – Chinua Achebe.
