The National Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party, Sammi Awuku, has stated that the Akufo-Addo government will not supervise anything untoward that will mar the beauty of Ghana’s enviable democracy.
To this end, he says the administration will see to it that fairness is not compromised in this year’s election.
Mr Awuku, who was speaking to the media during a visit to the Volta Region to monitor the ongoing registration exercise, therefore called on Ghanaians to reject the lies put out by the opposition National Democratic Congress that its supporters are being intimidated by NPP faithful and security personnel.
Providing figures to debunk the NDC’s claim, he stated, “no obstacles whatsoever have been placed in the way of eligible voters in the Volta Region.”
He explained that Ketu South and Ho Central constituencies, which together have a voter population of over 250,000, have recorded 35,000 and 32,000 registrants, respectively, within the first 14 days of the voter registration exercise.
“The NDC is just crying wolf because there is no evidence to support their claims of impediments being placed in their way as they go through the registration exercise . . . there is nothing like any of the registration equipment deliberately being tampered with to delay the process or security personnel intimidating Voltarians,” he said.
Volta visit
The NPP National Organiser toured some registration centres in the Volta Region to apprise himself with first-hand information on what is happening on the ground.
Accompanied by a Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Perry Kwabla Okudzeto, NPP’s Deputy Director of Communications, Kofi Agyepong, Volta Regional NPP Chairman, Makafui Woanya, and other regional executives of the governing party, Mr Awuku visited the Ho Central, Ho West, Afadzato, Kpando, North Dayi and South Dayi constituencies.
He also used the opportunity to visit some border communities in the Volta Region.
Call for support
Speaking to some youth in the region, Mr Awuku urged them to continue to support the Nana Akufo-Addo government since it is the only administration with the youth at heart.
“We can only continue to enjoy the Free SHS if we still have an NPP government in place,” he said.
