Gyasehene of Sampson Panpanso No.2, Nana Atiemo Akuffo Francis

Residents of Sampson Panpanso No.2, near Teacher Mantey, in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, have decried the increasing activities of land guards in the area. They contend that the activities, if not checked, could compel them to take the law into their own hands and defend themselves.

The residents, who say they can no longer take the unlawful activities of the land guards in the area, made the disclosure when they took the media to a tour on portions of land in their area which have been compulsorily taken over by real estate developers.

The Gyasehene of Sampson Panpanso No.2, Nana Atiemo Akuffo Francis, speaking to the media, stated that the real estate developers are taking them for granted because they are living in a rural community. He said they are using the services of the land guards to ‘steal’ from them.

Injunction

He said the worrying situation of real estate developers compulsorily taking their lands forced the community to secure a court injunction against the developers. He added that despite the injunction secured from the Nsawam High Court, the real estate developers had not paid heed, but continue with their nefarious activities.

According to the Gyaasehene, the emboldened developers took the new approach of involving land guards following the injunction.

To find a lasting solution to the impasse, he said, the residents reported the issue to the Suhum Divisional Police command who invited the real estate developers and cautioned them to desist from such acts.

He said not even the caution from the police had deterred the developers and their land guards.

They are therefore appealing with the Inspector General of Police, the District Security Council and other security agencies to come to their aid.

They cautioned that failure by these authorities to intervene may compel them to defend themselves.
