President Akufo-Addo says the Normalization Committee is working to meet the March 31, 2019 deadline.

The President made this known when delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA 2019) in parliament.

This extinguishes earlier reports in the media that the Normalization Committee has written to the government to ask FIFA for an extension on their behalf.

“The Ghanaian people are also expectant of a return to normalcy of all football-related activities as soon as possible, and the Normalization Committee is working to ensure that they meet the March deadline,” the president said.

He also touched on a number of refurbishment been done at some various stadia in the country and also said funds have been released for the completion of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

“Ghana won last year, the bid to host the 13th All Africa Games. It presents our nation with the opportunity to upgrade sporting infrastructure in the country, and position our nation as a preferred destination for the development of sporting disciplines on the continent”

“We have begun renovating and upgrading our sporting infrastructure such as the Accra and Cape Coast Sports Stadia, and the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Kaneshie, and a complete refurbishment of sports facilities across the country”

“Funds have also been released for the completion of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, started by the Kufuor-led NPP Government, but abandoned soon after 2009”.

The Normalization Committee was instituted by FIFA last year August after an expose by Anas Aremeyaw Anas led to the ban of key personalities in the game. Key among them was Kwesi Nyantakyi who was the then President of Ghana Football Association.

The Committee which is made up of Dr. Kofi Amoah, Ms. Lucy Quist, Lawyer Duah Adonten and Naa Odofoley Nortey have been criticized by a section of Ghanaians for non-performance so far.
