The leadership of the Teachers’ and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) has congratulated the new Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah on his appointment.
The national president of TEWU, Mr. Ambrose Kwadjodza, who announced this on behalf of the leadership, also pledged to work with the new administration for the betterment of education in the country.
Mr. Ambrose Kwadjodza announced this on Friday when he led the leadership of TEWU to pay a courtesy call on the new DG at the headquarters of GES in Accra.
The leadership of TEWU used the occasion to highlight a few of their pressing needs that require urgent action from GES, and appealed to Dr. Nkansah to speedily address these challenges.
The Ag. Director General commended TEWU for the visit, and assured them of his commitment to facilitate and address the issues they discussed.
“I am here to work with all of you, and I can assure you that I will facilitate and advocate to ensure that all the challenges facing the various pre-tertiary schools are addressed,” he said.
Additionally, Dr Nkansah assured them of his readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders in the education space towards the development of education, which serves a catalyst for national development.
Staff welfare
Meanwhile, Dr Nkansah has reiterated his commitment and desire to work towards improving the welfare of teachers and non-teaching staff of pre-tertiary institutions across the country.
This, he said, would be done by visiting the various regions to engage teaching and non-teaching staff, listen to their challenges and look at how best to help resolve them.
Dr. Eric Nkansah said this when he visited some selected schools under the Osu Cluster of schools in Accra.
The visit was aimed at engaging teachers and pupils of the Osu St. Thomas Presbyterian Primary/Kindergarten, Osu Presbyterian Boys Primary and Osu Presbyterian Two Boys Junior High School (JHS), all in Accra.
The GES Director General commended the teachers for their hard work, and assured them of his commitment to supporting and creating the right environment for them in the discharge of their duties.
Dr. Nkansah was upbeat that with the current state of development and initiatives being put in place by the government, everything possible would be done to enhance effective teaching and learning, especially in the areas of science.
He also pledged to work together with the leadership of the schools to resource science laboratories to boost the teaching and learning of science in the schools.
On behalf of the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for Osu, the headteacher of Osu Manhean Basic School, Joshua Nartey, praised the new DG for the visit, and wished him well in his new position.
Dr. Nkansah inspected an ongoing library refurbishment project in the Osu Cluster of Schools, funded and implemented by Deloitte and Spring-UP Global Network under the Deloitte ‘WorldClass Initiative’.
