Two persons have lost their lives after falling off from a Rhino truck with registration number AW 9592-13. The accident occurred between Korpe and Dededa, in the Afram Plains South district in the Eastern Region in the early hours of Monday. The truck was loaded with tree branches used by fishermen to bait fish.
The Rhino truck was being driven by 29-year-old Joseph Tsamotey, who was accompanied by seven others.
Seated on top of the vehicle, at the extreme end of the bucket of the truck, were five people, including the deceased, while two others were seated in front with the driver.
Cause
The Daily Statesman understands that the speeding vehicle veered off the road on reaching a sharp curve between Eklu Korpe and Dededa, resulting in the driver losing control over the wheel. The vehicle fell on the near side, with the five persons on top falling off unconscious.
Out of the eight people on board, Kotoko Israel, 40, and Emmanuel Okpare, 36, lost their lives on the spot. The ambulance service rushed Obimpeh Anthony and Heledzi Millidzi, who were in critical conditions to the Presbyterian hospital in Donkorkrom.
