Highlife artiste, Ransford Anamoah, known in showbiz as Ekow Marvel, has stated that the actions of some event organizers are killing the talent of artistes, especially upcoming ones.

According to the Akyem Oda based artiste, some event organizers see it as doing young artistes favour when they invite them for their programs, hence do not want to pay them for their services.

Using his experience as an example, the ‘Dome’ hit maker stated that sometimes some event organisers invite him for shows and when he request for some small amount of money to support his transportation, they tell him they are helping him and he “should rather be thankful”.

Speaking on the SayItRight in 27 show with Kwasi Frimpong, Ekow Marvel stated that due to how some event orgainsers treat upcoming artistes, it makes it difficult for artistes who are budding and do not have alternative means of livelihood to grow.

He stated that, for him, because he is a teacher, he sometimes supports himself with the salary he gets from teaching, “but there are some musicians, music is their only hope and so if he comes to perform and you don’t give him anything at all, you are killing such a person.”

Ekow Marvel said when artistes are invited to perform, they spend so much on their crew, promotion of the event, their costume among others and for people to think that they should perform for free is “insensitive”.

“When you invite both an ‘A Class’ and an underground artistes to your show, and you are paying the ‘A class’ artiste GHC20,000, at least pay 10% of that to the underground artistes to boost his moral.” he said.
