Leader of the secessionists group, Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), Charles Komi Kudodzie, aka Papavi Kudzordzi has called on the International Community to intervene to prevent continuous arrest of people of the group. The call according to Papavi is to avoid potential bloodshed between Ghana and the Western Togoland. “Again I am appealing to the international world, those in the corridors of peace, Amnesty International and all the groups we know, to come in to put the situation under control to avoid any possible mayhem,” He said.
Eleven secessionists whose leader declared independence of a so-called independent Western Togoland in Ho were arrested in the Volta Regional capital last week.
Five of them have already appeared in a Ho Circuit Court and are now on remand.
Their arrest by Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and National Security operatives followed an unannounced hunt for their octogenarian leader, and key members of the group.
Speaking in a video that has gone viral on social media, Papavi indicated that the arrest of members of the group is not the right thing to be done hence the need for the International Community to intervene to prevent the Government of Ghana from continuous arrest and detention of his members.
Maturity
He has also called on the Government of Ghana to ‘show maturity’ and use what he describes as ‘legal’ means to handle the issue. Speaking like a President who was addressing his country from his hideout, Papavi said though he is in Ghana, he will not give himself up until he has been legally invited by the government. “I am in the country anyway. I have not travelled [hidden] anywhere. But I want the government to show maturity. Invite me legally through my lawyers and I will present myself for the case to continue. Please let us do justice,” he said.
Call for Calm
Meanwhile the fugitive has called on the Kings and queens of his imaginative Western Togoland to remain peaceful saying “no declaration is staged without quarrel”. He stated in the video that “I’m asking all kings, queens to advise their people, subordinates, subjects here and there to be peaceful, the youth [to] advise one another to be peaceful”.
