The New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA Washington DC Metro Area Chapter recently engaged with Ghanaian traditional rulers in the Washington DC Metro area. On Sunday, September 15th, 2024, Chairman Ing. Janis Asare-Bediako led the NPP-USA delegation in a meeting with the traditional Chiefs and Queen mothers Association of Washington DC Metro ¹. The association comprises chiefs and queens enstooled or enskinned in Ghana but residing in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) ².

During the meeting, Chairman Janis expressed gratitude to the chiefs for their continuous support of the chapter’s activities, particularly their presence at the NPP@30 anniversary celebration ¹ ³. He also introduced Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as the running mate to Dr. Bawumia, highlighting NAPO’s strengths and contributions to the ticket ³.

The NPP delegation discussed key manifesto policies, including:

– *Reviewing Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act*: to allow more participation and engagement from traditional rulers
– *Living Allowances*: to support Paramount Chiefs, Divisional Chiefs, and Queen Mothers
– *Strengthening Ghanaian Cultural and Family Values*: to further promote existing values ¹

The chiefs praised the NPP’s proposals, calling them “long overdue” and “a step in the right direction.” However, they cautioned the NPP to ensure implementation of these policies beyond mere campaign rhetoric ¹. The chiefs also advised the NPP to communicate their implemented projects and policies effectively, as these achievements would influence the Ghanaian populace’s electoral decisions.

Chairman Janis pledged the NPP’s commitment to working with traditional rulers and ensuring continued support from the local NPP chapter ¹. This meeting demonstrates the NPP-USA Washington DC Metro Chapter’s dedication to collaboration and community engagement, recognizing the vital role traditional rulers play in Ghana’s development.
