Yara Ghana Limited has joined the growing list of donors to the Covid-19 Trust Fund set up by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, with a donation of GHC200, 000 to help combat the novel coronavirus disease.
The West Africa Regional Director for Yara International, Mr Danquah Addo-Yobo, made the presentation at a short ceremony at the office of the Fund in Accra.
He said that, as a strategic partner in the agricultural space in Ghana, his outfit put in place measures to ensure that farmers have access to quality fertilizers when and wherever they need it to ensure continuity in food production in order to ensure food security for the country during this period of the pandemic.
He said because farmers need to apply fertilizers at specific times, his outfit’s products are in the market in time for the season to help ensure the country’s food security.
Disbursement
Receiving the donation, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for the Trust Fund, former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, expressed gratitude to Yara Ghana for exhibiting good corporate citizenship, and commended the company for its work in the agricultural value chain.
She said that the beneficiaries will be frontline and volunteers engaged in the combat of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the vulnerable and the needy affected by the pandemic.
Justice Sophia Akuffo further explained that the Fund was set up by an Act of Parliament, the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) National Trust Fund Bill, 2020, to receive and manage contributions and donations from well-meaning individuals, groups and corporate bodies.
So far, the COVID-19 National Trust Fund has received about GHC44.9million in donations in cash since it was established while some institutions have also made available four-wheeled vehicles to the Fund.
