Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
Some 63 out of the 87 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament have declared their support for former Vice President and flagbearer aspirant, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries. According to the Minority MPs, Br Bawumia stands out as the most experienced, visionary, and winnable candidate among the five party stalwarts seeking to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections. Addressing a press conference in Accra yesterday, the Mampong MP, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, described Dr Bawumia as the embodiment of the party’s next chapter and a symbol of renewal and competence. “Today, over 60 Members of Parliament–63 precisely–stand together in unity and conviction to make this clarion call. We declare our total and unwavering support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of our great party,” he said. He added that the decision was driven by confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s track record and leadership qualities that align with the NPP’s vision for the future. “We have seen his work, his discipline, resilience, and readiness to serve. We believe that Dr. Bawumia embodies the next chapter of the NPP–one built on competence, innovation, unity, and hope,” Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong stated. List of Mps The 63 lawmakers who declared their support include Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong of Mampong, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie of Effiduase-Asokore, and Kofi Amankwa-Manu of Atwima Kwanwoma. Others are Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi of Asante Akyem Central, Francis Asenso Boakye of Bantama, and Vincent Ekow Assafuah of Old Tafo.
The list continues with Akwasi Konadu of Manhyia North, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko of Kwadaso, Ernest Yaw Anim of Kumawu, and Damata Appianimaa Salam of Afigya Kwabre South. Others are Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah of Offinso North, Francis Owusu-Akyaw of Juaben, John Darko of Suame, Kofi Obiri Yeboah of Subin, Michael Aidoo of Oforikrom, and Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah of Manhyia South. Also included are Nana Eric Agyeman-Prempeh of Ahafo Ano North, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh of Bosome Freho, Anthony Mmieh of Odotobri, Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo of Manso Nkwanta, Frank Yeboah of Atwima Nwabiagya North, Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah of Ahafo Ano South-West, Ralph Poku-Adusei of Bekwai, Seth Osei-Akoto of Atwima Mponua, and Akwasi Gyamfi Onyina-Acheampong of Afigya Kwabre East.
From the Eastern Region, the MPs include Frank Annoh-Dompreh of Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo of Achiase, Michael Okyere Baafi of New Juaben South, and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah of Ofoase-Ayirebi.
Others are Sammy Awuku of Akwapim South, Charles Owiredu of Abirem, Dr. Kingsley Agyeman of Abuakwa South (Kyebi), Duke OforiAtta of Fanteakwa South, Ida Adjoa Asiedu of Ayensuano, and Alexander Akwasi Acquah of Akyem Oda.
The list also includes Laurette Korkor Asante of Atiwa West, Kwame Appiah Kodua of Fanteakwa North, Frank Asiedu Bekoe of Suhum, Alex Agyare of Kade, and Nana Ampaw Addo Frempong of Abuakwa North. In the Ahafo Region, the declaration came from Gideon Boako of Tano North. From the Western Region, the supporters include Kwabena Okyere Mensah-Darko of Takoradi and Isaac Yaw Boamah Nyarko of Effia. In the Central Region, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour of Assin South and Rudolf Amoako Gyampah of Upper Denkyira West declared their support. In the Bono Region, Col. (rtd) Kwadwo Damoah of Jaman South made the list, while in the Bono East Region, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah of Techiman South was among those who declared support
In the Northern Region, the MPs include Adam Mohammed Amin of Karaga, Dominic Nitiwul of Bimbila, Iddrisu Habib of Tolon, Sulemana Alhassan Tampuli of Gushegu, Matthew Nyindam of Kpandai, and Hajia Abdul Aziz Fatahiya of Savelugu. From the North East Region, the list features Mustapha Ussif of Yagba-Kubori, Mahama Tia Abdul Kabiru of Walewale, and Mumuni Muhammed Nurideen of Nalerigu-Gambaga. In the Savanna Region, Samuel Abu Jinapor of Damongo also declared his support. Lastly, from the Greater Accra Region, the MPs include Gloria Owusu of Trobu and Emmanuel Tobbin of Anyaa-Sowutuom.
