Leader of the Legal Green Association, Festus Matey
The Legal Green Association (LGA) of the Ghana School of Law is set to hold its maiden Law Students’ Conference on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Ghana Shippers House, Ridge, Accra.
The conference, which is open to law students at the LLB, Pre-Bar and Professional Law School levels, will bring together aspiring legal professionals, lawyers and government officials to discuss issues relating to law, governance and political leadership.
It will be held under the theme, “Bridging Justice and Governance: The Role of Lawyers in Political Leadership.”
High-Profile Speakers
A number of prominent lawyers, politicians and government officials are expected to participate in the conference.
They include Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo; Attorney-General Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine; Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister Mahama Ayariga; and National Petroleum Authority Chief Executive Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo.
Others are Madina MP Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu; Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery, Edmond Kombat; and energy expert and Managing Attorney Lom Nuku Ahlijah.
Voice for Law Students
Leader of the Legal Green Association, Festus Matey, said the conference comes at an important period for legal education in Ghana following recent reforms aimed at improving legal education, professional training and access to legal practice.
He said there was a need to create a national platform where law students could contribute to discussions affecting legal education and the profession, similar to the opportunities provided to lawyers through Bar conferences.
Discussions at the conference will cover legal ethics in political leadership, citizen participation in justice, the role of young people in political leadership and legal practice.
LGA to Elect New Leaders
The conference will also provide an opportunity for the association to honour its founding fathers, former leaders, patrons and current leadership.
It will further mark an important transition for the LGA as the association prepares to elect new executives for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The association says the conference forms part of its broader objective of providing a platform for law students and young members of the legal profession to express their concerns and aspirations while contributing to the development of legal education and Ghana’s justice system.
