The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia escaped unhurt in a motor accident on Saturday, 16th February, 2019 that took the life of one person.
According to Gideon Boako, spokesperson for the Vice President, the deceased is a driver of a commercial vehicle which was also involved in the accident.
The incident occurred around 6:30 pm at Asemasa near Beposo on the Takoradi – Cape Coast highway as the Vice President was returning from some activities in the Western region.
Some other passengers and security persons who were injured were conveyed to the Cape Coast Regional hospital and are responding to treatment.
“The Vice President’s thoughts and prayers are with the injured and the family of the deceased,” Mr. Boako said.
Previous Accident
In March 2013, Dr. Bawumia’s car was involved in an accident.
The then NPP Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP was traveling to the Ashanti Region from the North when he got involved in an accident on the Bole-Bamboi road.
Dr Bawumia, was in the company of his aide, the Late Mr Kwabena Boadu; his bodyguard, referred to only as Tanko, and his driver, Emmanuel.
The accident occurred when two of the car’s tyres exploded 15 minutes into the journey and Dr Bawumia had to be flown to Accra where he was attended to at a private hospital.
The NPP accused the NDC and John Mahama of masterminding the accident.
