The Minister presents a key of an ambulance to the EMT as some other officers look on Insert: The ambulances lined up at the ERCC

The senior head of the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) in the Eastern Region, Gaani Micheal, has disclosed that the new ambulances distributed to all constituencies in the country last week are equipped more than some hospitals in the country.
He stated that the kind of equipment in the ambulances are ultra-modern, and will ensure improvement and effectiveness in dealing with emergencies.
He has therefore given the assurance that his outfit will ensure proper maintenance of the ambulances for them to reach their maximum life span.
Mr Gaani was speaking to the Evening Mail on the sidelines of a short ceremony by the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) to handover the ambulances to the various constituencies in the region.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, asked the EMT to be extra careful in their handling of the ambulances. He indicated that the only way the ambulances can last long is taking proper care of them through frequent maintenance.
Improvement
The Regional Minister added that the provision of the ambulances is a major improvement to the country’s emergency delivery system.
“I was told there were just 18 emergency centres of which just two were effective and functioning. The 18 emergency centres were supposed to have 18 ambulances which were not available,” said Mr. Darfour. He further noted that with the arrival of these new ambulances, there will be efficiency at these centres.
