Abola Royal House, one of the ruling royal houses of the Ga Paramount Stool, has described as “unacceptable and uncustomary” the recent enstoolment of Kelvin Tackie as Ga Mantse.
To this end, it says it has nullified the purported enstoolment on grounds that the Gborbu Wulomo has no capacity to install a Ga Mantse
Addressing a press conference to set the records straight, the Ga Abola Royal Stool Dzasetse, Nii Okai Awua II, noted that the Justice VCRAC Crabbe report, upon which the “so-called kingmakers” acted, was never put before Parliament for debate or consideration, as was done in the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute. In their reckoning, therefore, that report cannot be binding in this particular case.
He explained that at the time of the setting up of that commission, there were cases pending before the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs as well as the high court.
He further indicated that since Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse is currently holding himself as Ga Mantse, with a gazette which has not been nullified, any other installation done to that position of Ga Mantse “is null and void with no legal and customary consequence”.
Nii Okai Awua II also pointed out that a bench warrant for the arrest of Boni Nii Adams Latse is still active and the court has not given judgment. Therefore, he added, any action contrary to what is happening in court is nothing but “contempt of court.”
MoU
In addition, he said the traditional norms, rights, practices, protocols, usages and procedures make it suicidal for Dr Kelvin Tackie to be claiming and holding himself in that capacity.
According to him, in March 29, 2005, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by all the ruling houses to the effect of the installation of Ga Mantse, but was never made available to the Justice VCRAC Crabbe Commission.
He said, per that agreement, “the customary Mantse (cloth) from the said Ruling House (Amugi We) shall be delivered to the Elder and Representative of Abola Piam We for the Ga Mantse elect, according to the recognised customary Rotation Succession.”
He added that it also indicates that Nii Tackie Tawiah II ruled from 1944 – 1947; Nii Tackey Kommey II also took over as Ga Mantse from 1948 – 1962; and Nii Amugi II also ruled from 1965 – 2004. He said all these three kings were from Teiko Tsuru We, Tackey Kommey We and Nii Amugi We respectively.
“So all these three Royal Ruling Houses had their turn, including Reiko Tsuru We where Dr Kelvin Tackie hails from. This is the turn of Abola Piam We and nobody can revert that,” he said.
No standing
Nii Okai Awua II also maintained that the enstoolment conducted over the weekend was carried out by illegitimate persons who have no capacity to install a Ga Mantse.
“Even the VCRAC Crabbe Commission lacked the capacity to choose and install a Ga Mantse, let alone Gborbu Wulomo,” he noted.
He therefore stated that “Dr Kelvin Tackie is NOT, I repeat, NOT GA Mantse and all those who transact any business with him in that capacity do so at their own risk.”
