Some residents in Asene-Manso-Akroso District in the Eastern Region say projects completed by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration are visible on the ground unlike John Mahama’s projects which can only be seen in the opposition National Democratic Congress’ ‘green book’.
This comes at the back of claims by the opposition party that the infrastructural achievement touted by the governing party are ‘ghost projects’.
Speaking to the Daily Statesman, the residents confirmed the construction of a steel bridge that connects the district to other cocoa farming communities, electrification projects, town roads, market centres, mechanised boreholes, dormitory blocks, classroom blocks and internal road projects at the Akroso SHS which were recently captured by Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia during a townhall meeting held in Accra.
“We are thankful to this government for all the projects done. Life over here was uncomfortable until they changed the story. So we are grateful to them for helping us overcome the discomfort especially in relation to electricity,” some of the residents said.
A senior nurse at the Akroso clinic, Belinda Yayra, commended the government for expanding the only detention room at the facility, which had five beds and was serving as both male and female wards, to a 40-bed separate male and female wards.
130 projects
District Chief Executive for the area, Alex Incoom, said the district has benefitted from over 130 infrastructural developments.
He said if the President decides to use Asene-Akroso-Manso alone as a case study, the past NDC government will come nowhere near in terms of infrastructural development.
“I believe President Akufo-Addo has delivered more than his predecessor because only in Asene-Manso-Akroso you can count about 130 big developments spanning from tourism, health, electrification projects, education and economic and social services executed by the Akufo-Addo’s government,” he said.
