Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Birim Central, Solomon Kusi Brako
The Birim Youth Association (BiYA) has petitioned the Office of the Chief of Staff to make public the findings of a reported investigation into allegations of extortion levelled against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Solomon Brako-Kusi.
The allegations were made by the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who has accused the MCE of allegedly collecting money from some illegal miners operating within the municipality.
BiYA says releasing the findings of the investigation would help establish the facts, promote transparency and allow the public to assess the allegations on the basis of an official investigation rather than competing claims in the media.
NIB Investigation
Addressing a press conference in Akyem Oda, Convenor of BiYA, Kingsly G. Adofo, said the matter was brought before the Office of the Chief of Staff in February 2026 and subsequently referred to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
According to him, the association has been informed that the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) investigated the allegations and submitted its report to the relevant authorities.
“We have become aware that somewhere in February 2026, a petition concerning this allegation was brought to your office, upon which the issue was referred to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for subsequent investigation into the allegation by the National Investigations Bureau,” the association stated.
BiYA expressed concern that the allegations have continued to feature in public discussions despite the reported completion of the investigation.
‘Publish Findings’
Mr Adofo said continued discussion of the allegations without disclosure of the investigation’s outcome risked shaping public opinion without the benefit of the findings of the state investigative body.
The association consequently wants the Office of the Chief of Staff to publish the findings, subject to any applicable legal or investigative restrictions.
“We therefore respectfully petition your office to publish the findings and outcome of the investigation to the public,” the group said.
Mr Adofo stressed that BiYA was not seeking to determine the guilt or innocence of any of the persons involved, but wanted the official findings to provide clarity.
He said publication would also help protect the reputations and fundamental rights of those involved while strengthening public confidence in state investigative institutions.
MP Urged to Back Demand
BiYA further called on the Akim Oda MP, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, to support its demand for the release of the report.
Mr Adofo said making the findings public would allow residents and the wider public to make informed judgments about the allegations based on the outcome of the investigation.
The association expressed confidence that the Office of the Chief of Staff would give the petition urgent consideration, maintaining that disclosure of the findings would promote accountability, fairness and transparency.
