Ten-man Aduana FC produced a resilient performance to defeat Asante Kotoko 2-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, handing the Porcupine Warriors their first defeat of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
Stephen Amankona gave Aduana an early advantage in the fifth minute after Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim lost control of the ball, allowing the forward to capitalise and put the visitors ahead.
Kotoko were handed a numerical advantage shortly before half-time when Aduana defender Raymond Agyemang was sent off in the 42nd minute.
Despite playing against 10 men for more than 50 minutes, the Porcupine Warriors failed to find a way through a determined Aduana side.
The visitors instead punished Kotoko deep into stoppage time, with Seidu Saana finishing a counterattack in the fifth minute of added time to seal an impressive 2-0 victory.
‘We Played With Fear’
Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler expressed disappointment with his team’s performance, saying his players appeared nervous even before conceding the opening goal.
“They were jittery prior to that early goal. That’s why we ended up conceding because we started like we were playing with fear,” Tinkler said after the game.
The South African coach was also unhappy with his side’s ball retention, blaming the defeat partly on their tendency to surrender possession cheaply and present Aduana with opportunities.
The defeat brought Kotoko’s unbeaten start to the new league campaign to an end, while providing a major result for Aduana away from home.
Kotoko are scheduled to return to action against Karela United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 1. Karela head into the encounter after beating Hearts of Oak 1-0 and ending the Phobians’ unbeaten start to the season.
