President Akufo-Addo addresses some Chiefs
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says even though the ruling NPP contested the last general elections with two parliamentary seats in Nzema and came out with zero, the party will definitely recapture the lost seats, come 2024.
This, he said, is because Nzema will be so much dotted with infrastructure in his second term that the people will have no option but to show their appreciation by voting massively for NPP and its parliamentary candidates.
There are three constituencies in the Nzema area, namely Evalue-Gwira-Ajomoro, Jomoro and Ellembelle, with NPP occupying the first two before 2020. The party unfortunately lost the two seats to the opposition NDC after the election.
The dynamics
But at a meeting with the Nzemanle Council, made up of chiefs in the three Nzema constituencies, last Friday, as part of his two-day tour to Western Region, President Akufo-Addo said the NPP’s loss was part of the “dynamics of politics”.
He said there would be a reverse in 2024 with the two lost seats being snatched by NPP.
He said his first administration executed numerous developmental projects in Nzema, be it in education, health or road construction, to better the lives of the people and will intensify this agenda.
In the road sector, for instance, President Akufo-Addo said 375 kilometres network was constructed in the area, with plans to embark on 31 new construction and asphalting projects this time round .
That notwithstanding, he said, the road network in Nzema still deserves a facelift, and assured the chiefs and people of more construction works before the end of his tenure of office, stressing that the area’s road deficit would be addressed systematically.
The President also spoke of the Petroleum Hub initiative in Nzema under his administration, with appointment of Awulae Annor Adjaye, the paramount chief of Western Nzema, as chairman of board of directors to oversee efficient running of the hub and creation of the Marine Harbour to open up Nzema.
Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli, President of the Nzemanle Traditional Council and paramount chief of Eastern Nzema, had earlier in a welcome address commended the Akufo-Addo led government for giving Nzema a facelift and prudent management of the oil resources for the benefit of Nzemas and Ghanaians in general.
He however appealed to the President to personally intervene in the amicable settlement of the impasse between ENI and Springfield, the two giant oil exploration companies. President Akufo-Addo was in the region to officially thank the people for their support and vote for NPP last year’s elections, listen to their concerns and inspect progress of work in the various districts.
