Report indicates plans by the embattled former Minister for Trade and Industry, John Alan Kyerematen, to partner with two-time Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, for the 2024 general elections. This comes after Mr. Kyerematen’s withdrawal from the New Patriotic Party Presidential primaries scheduled for November 4.
According to sources, Mr Kyerematen has been holding meetings with the former CPP flagbearer for a possible alliance. This is coming at a time when some dedicated supporters of the former NPP flagbearer hopeful have deserted him to join Vice-President Bawumia’s Campaign.
Sources within Alan’s camp suggest that he initially considered running as an independent candidate but later abandoned the idea, realizing that running a successful independent campaign in 2024 seemed improbable.
Thus, Mr Kyerematen is alleged to be in talks with political parties that already have the existing structures to make the campaign easier. He is rumoured to be in talks with the leadership of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the Convention People’s Party.
However, discussions are said to be far advanced with the CPP and both Mr Kyerematen and Mr Greenstreet are contemplating announcing their candidature in the coming days.
Withdrawal
Mr. Kyerematen withdrew from the NPP Presidential race after finishing a distant third in the super delegates congress held on August 26. He received 95 votes, trailing behind Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who secured 629 and 132 votes, respectively. Mr. Kyerematen cited intimidation and an unfair playing field as reasons for his withdrawal.
Accepting his withdrawal, party General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, in a statement said that both the Elections and the Disciplinary Committees have initiated comprehensive investigations into all reported incidents of violations and infractions alleged to have occurred at various voting centers during the Super Delegates election last month.
The statement assured all persons found culpable of any wrongdoing will be held accountable.
