All is set for the fumigation of about 200 market centres in the Eastern Region today, April 4 2020. This is according to the Eastern Regional Minster, Eric Kwakye Darfour. The fumigation is part of the ongoing national disinfestation exercise to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus disease, Covid-19.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, Mr. Darfour said the region has deployed 1,850 fumigation workers across the region for the exercise. He called on all Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region to collaborate with the fumigation workers for a successful exercise.
Covid-19 case recorded
Also speaking at the press conference, the Deputy Eastern Regional Health Director, Dr. Antobrah Boateng, stated that one confirmed positive case of Covid-19 has been tested in the region. He said the case is an imported case from an Indian national who was reported by some Ghanaians upon his arrival at Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo district recently.
He stated that the carrier of the Covid-19 is a senior staff of Afcon construction company, the company constructing the Akosombo to Mpakadan rail lines.
“The person is clinically healthy and has no symptoms of the pandemic, however he has been isolated and receiving the necessary guidelines to ensure he stays fit and recovers,” said Dr. Boateng.
Mr. Darfour applauded the Ghanaian workers of the company for taking the bold step in reporting the foreigner to the appropriate office and encouraged the public to report any suspected cases and unlawful entrants into the region to the Covid-19 team.
Meanwhile, the region has so far tested samples of 33 suspected cases of Covid-19 which have all proven negative.
