former NDC Central Regional Chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs

Veteran Politician and former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has left the party few days after the party’s National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, descended on the party’s parliamentary leadership.

Allotey Jacobs who has been serving a suspension from the party since May 2020 says he has dismissed himself from the party due to the intolerance of some persons within the party.

Speaking of Peace FMs Kokrokoo, yesterday, Mr Jacobs said he did not through any official processes when he joined the party and thus does not need any official means to leave.

The former NDC chairman says he now supports President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Bawumia even though he will not join the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I have declared to support him [Akufo-Addo and his Vice President… I no longer belong to the NDC. I am not an NPP member, I’ll never be an NPP member,” he said.

Descends on Sammy Gyamfi

Mr Allotey Jacobs has also descended on the NDC’s National Communication Officer for his attacks on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the minority members of parliament.

Sammy Gyamfi, following the approval of some ministerial nominees of President Akufo-Addo, lashed descended heavily on the leadership of the minority for prioritizing their personal interest at the expense of the party’s.

“Comrades, the betrayal we have suffered in the hands of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, the leadership of our parliamentary group, particularly Hon. Haruna Iddrissu and Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, and dozens of our own MPs, is what strengthens me to work hard for the great NDC to regain power,” portions of his post read.

Reacting to Sammy Gyamfi’s attacks, the former NDC Central Regional Chairman wondered if the NDC communication officer wanted the MPs to hold the country to ransom by not approving the nominees.

“You want the country to standstill when you have a government in place and the leadership of the party that won the election has been sworn in. You want to say that his ministers should not be approved. People should learn. We are building a nation; we are not worshipping personalities,” he said.

Suspension

The NDC in May 2020 suspended Mr Allotey Jacobs for his “consistent anti-party conduct.”

The party said the decision was taken after a meeting of its Functional Executive Committee (FEC).

Mr Allotey Jacobs, however, stated that he was not moved by the suspension.

“I have my own independent mind and I will always stand for the truth, and if the party dislikes it and, for that reason, they are suspending me, that’s beautiful,” he stated.

He said he received the decision wholeheartedly, and had no intention of challenging the party’s decision. He added that he will, nonetheless, continue to offer honest opinions on various radio and TV stations, provided he is given the platform to comment on issues.

Cautioning the leadership of the party, he stated that they cannot ruin his life with their ‘pull-him-down’ attitude.

“The truth is that nothing surpasses God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of Ishmael; He’s one God, nothing surpasses Him. The faceless, the boneless, the shapeless God; He who says and it is done is the one I serve. I love God. To all my opponents and enemies, the truth is that don’t blame Allotey Jacobs. Blame God. It is by His grace and His mercy that I’ve been where I am,” he said.
