Madam Cecilia Dapaah, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, has indicated that the government will, as a matter of urgency, make available polytanks in urban and rural areas to make water accessible to most Ghanaians in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is made free because the President knows the importance of water at this critical time,” the Minister said this morning when she addressed the media on the water relief services as announced by the President on Sunday.
In an address to the nation on Sunday, President Akufo-Addo disclosed that the government would take care of water bills of all Ghanaians for the next three months.
President Akufo-Addo said “the Ghana Water Company Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana have been directed to ensure the stable supply of water and electricity during this period. There will be no disconnection of supply.”
Madam Dapaah again emphasised that hospitals, clinics and all health centres will also enjoy priority supply of water.
She also said areas suffering from water supply will also have water supplied to them.
The Minister cautioned those who might want to tamper with pipelines to desist from such acts.
“All of us should not tamper with pipelines so that we have constant supply of water,” she said.
