Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyere II, Akyem Kotoku Kurontihene

The Kurontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyere II, has called on Ghanaians, especially people living in his traditional area, to support President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and all parliamentary candidates of the governing New Patriotic Party in the December 7 general elections.

According to the revered chief, President Akufo-Addo has proven to be an honest leader who keeps his promises, hence the need to give him another term to complete all the good works he has commenced.

He indicated that it is a warped logic for anybody to suggest that the Akufo-Addo government that has built a solid foundation should not be allowed to build on it.

Obrempong Saforo Kyere II said this in an interview with the Daily Statesman over the weekend, after he joined other dignitaries to cut sod for the commencement of some seven projects in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The ‘wages of the worker’

According to Obrempong Saforo Kyere II, ‘the wages of the worker’ is due him, hence the need to reciprocate the gesture of the Akufo-Addo government.

“The level of developmental projects we are witnessing in this area recently indicates clearly that this government has been truthful to us and has proven to be one of our own; it is for us to reciprocate same kindness,” he said.

The chief listed some developmental projects already completed or at various stages of completion. They include the construction of a two-storey six-unit masters’ bungalow at Attafuah SHTS; construction of six-unit classroom block with office and store at Oda Salvation Army; construction of two-storey girls’ dormitory for Methodist College of Education; asphalting of Akyem Oda town roads, among others.

The Kotoku Kurontihene said never in the history of the fourth republic has the area had such level of infrastructural development within a short space of time.

He therefore urged the people to also remember to vote for the NPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, since President Akufo-Addo will need absolute majority in Parliament to execute his vision, when re-elected.

Monitoring and sanitation

The chief added that the traditional leadership in the area will continually monitor the progress of the projects to ensure that the contractors complete them on time.

He bemoaned an unfortunate situation where encroachers have started selling on the newly asphalted roads in the area. He indicated that, not to leave the burden on politicians, especially at this crucial hour of few months to a major election, the traditional leadership will themselves sack all such unscrupulous people.

“This is not for politicians to do; when we see you setting up a market on the road or see you littering in town haphazardly, we shall arrest and prosecute you.

“We have a duty as people to keep our town clean. The indiscriminate littering by the people and the indiscriminate setting up of mini-markets everywhere, and especially on the newly constructed roads, do not speak well of the town,” he said.
