An old building of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), of the Nsawam Divisional Police in the Eastern Region, which had become a death trap due to its weak nature has seen a facelift.
Blue Skies Foundation, a subsidiary of Blue Skies Fruit Company, went into the aid of the Police Service in Nsawam and rehabilitated the over 40-year-old wooden structure.
The old wooden structure, according to the police, did not have enough office space for effective operation, a situation which was hampering smooth delivery of their mandate.
The newly constructed structure consists of three offices, a reception, a washroom, bathroom, and an accommodation room for victims under the structure of DOVVSU.
Respect for humanity
Dr Abena Asumani Antwi, a board member of Blue Skies Foundation, said they decided to go to the aid of DOVVSU due to the critical role the unit plays in the Police Service.
She said their brand has a huge respect for people and communities, stressing that caring for the people breeds care for their fruits, which in turn fosters a natural respect for the environment and the communities where they exist.
“If you help the security forces, you’re safeguarding the whole community and country. Therefore, we are committed to the highest standards of quality and care. Our relationship with the security forces is not done yet, but they should put the edifice to good use first,” she added.
She said their Foundation seeks to promote education, good sanitation, health, security, and other sectors to improve livelihoods and enhance the development of communities.
She added that the social corporate activities of the Foundation have so far benefited over 100,000 people, adding that they are seeking to make influence the countries of operation, including Ghana, Brazil, Senegal, South Africa, Egypt, and the United Kingdom.
