A Deputy Minister of Finance and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Juaboso, Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, has awarded scholarships to 121 students to further their education.

This is a demonstration of the Deputy Minister’s increasing commitment to the development of education and human resources in his constituency.

Dubbed the “Dr. Alex Ampaabeng Scholarship Scheme”, the initiative aims to improve access to quality education for brilliant but needy students in the area.

The scholarship scheme, which began in 2022, initially benefited 18 students in its first phase.  In the second phase, launched over the weekend at Sefwi Antobia, 103 additional students were awarded scholarships.

Addressing the awardees, the Dr. Alex Ampaabeng explained that he established the scheme as part of his dedication to improving access to higher education, and ensuring equitable distribution of opportunities for all residents of Juaboso.

He also noted that the scheme is intended to serve as an example for well-off individuals, politicians, and opinion leaders to emulate, with the goal of fostering human capital development in the constituency.

Beneficiaries

The scholarship is available to both tertiary and second-cycle students. Tertiary students receive 60% of their academic fees for the year, while second-cycle students are provided with 40% of their remaining school-related expenses.

This is because many second-cycle students are already beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
