Members of the Okyeman Association of Georgia have donated assorted items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to Our Faith in God Foundation, an Akwatia-based orphanage in the Eastern Region.

The association is mainly made up of natives of Akyem who reside in Georgia in the United States of America.

The items donated included bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, bags of sugar, cartons of tin tomatoes, sachets of washing powders, bottles of mineral water, assorted canned drinks and tissues, as well as toiletries, among others.

The donation, which also included an undisclosed amount of money, was aimed at supporting the management in its day-to-day running of the orphanage.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Akwatia, the Assistant Secretary of the association, Samuel Kusi Yeboah, pointed out that the donation was part of the group’s efforts to help private orphanage homes and also to inspire and motivate the children (orphans) for a better future.

Continuous support

He added that the donation was to also help ease the burden on those managing the orphanage and improving the plight of the children.

Mr. Yeboah promised that the association would continue to support the management of the orphanage to improve the welfare of the children and to ensure that they are able to reintegrate into their community as healthy, happy, responsible and independent adults in the future.

He added that the relationship between the association and the orphanage, established some four years ago, would continue in order to make life more dignifying and comfortable for the children. He called on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and philanthropists to support the orphanage.

Executive Director of Our Faith in God Foundation, Janet Oppong, expressed her profound gratitude to the association and prayed for God’s protection for the members for their continuous support.

She promised to ensure that the items are put to good use to support the children’s welfare. She also appealed to other bodies and corporate entities to support them in kind and or in cash to help complete a new structure under construction.
