The Law Students Network (LSN) has commended former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his pragmatic leadership in fostering unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the party’s 31st January 2026 Presidential Primaries.
The former President, on 21st October 2025, held a breakfast meeting with all five presidential aspirants of the NPP at his private residence in Nima, Accra, during which he emphasised that the future success of the party depends on how harmoniously they conduct the upcoming primaries.
The former President noted that the engagement sought to “foster a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s presidential primaries” and to underscore “the critical importance of a cohesive party for the 2028 general elections.”
Statement
In a statement, LSN noted that such pragmatic leadership is both timely and necessary, as it could encourage aspirants and their supporters to moderate divisive and inflammatory rhetoric that has become prevalent in Ghana’s political discourse.
The LSN thus commended the former President for this proactive and unifying initiative, stating it reflects his continued commitment to national cohesion and party stability.
Pledge
Meanwhile, all five aspirants, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, pledged to maintain a “healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere.”
They further assured that they and their supporters would “rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries.”
