Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh

MTN Ghana, through its Foundation, has announced that it is supporting the government’s fight against the novel coronavirus with GHC5million.

This is part of the company’s commitment to supporting government’s efforts in the fight against the pandemic. The money is to help government in the procurement of medical supplies, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essentials to support frontline medical staff.

According the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, “COVID-19 is, unquestionably, testing our society’s fortitude and we all have a role to play in helping our country to overcome this global challenge.”

“From the onset, we made a commitment to provide the needed assistance to help the country, businesses and the entire society stay connected to their work and loved ones. Our support to date has been in that direction.

“This phase of our commitment is to help us directly combat the disease and to help the medical teams provide the needed care to our fellow Ghanaians. We believe that we are good together as a people, especially in these times when we all must pitch in to fight this pandemic. We are confident that together we will overcome this challenge,” he added.

Items

The money will go into procurement of 10,000 virus sampling kits; 10,000 N95 masks; 10,000 gloves and 7,500 PPEs (overalls).

Other things to be procured are four PCR machines for testing; 3,000 RNA extraction Kits; 500 infrared thermometers and 3,000 disposable bed sheets.

The Board Chairman of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Professor Franklin Manu, said the Foundation has been at the forefront of corporate social investments in the country, saying “We believe the situation at hand needs the intervention of all Ghanaians, and we are very happy to support with the purchase of these much-needed medical supplies as we complement government’s efforts in the fight against Covid-19.”
