To prove its dominance in the media space, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), this week, showcased about 70 radio stations scattered across the whole country, and being used as vehicles to prosecute its propaganda agenda ahead of the December polls.
Announcing “NDC PRESS BRIEFING LIVE COVERAGE NOTICE” on Monday, the party listed all these radio stations which were to provide live coverage for the event.
Notorious for using radio to incite mayhem during elections, as in the case of Radio Gold ahead of the 2008 and 2012 elections, and Montie FM in 2016, NDC key figures have established over 70 television and radio stations dotted across the country.
The NDC is on record to have used Radio Gold, then spearheaded by James Agyenim Boateng, who would later be rewarded by the party as a deputy minister, to incite supporters of the party in 2008 to pick up arms to besiege the premises of the Electoral Commission (EC) during the collation of national figures in the 2008 presidential elections.
In both 2012 and 2016, the party established Montie FM, which it used, through the help of Mugabe Maase, to threaten mayhem in the country, including inciting people to allegedly ‘rape’ then Chief Justice Theodora Georgina Woode.
Julius Debrah’s agenda
With Radio Gold and Montie FM now out of the way, due to their unlawful operation and subsequent closure by the National Communications Authority (NCA), Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff, is reported to have bought Radio XYZ, originally established by the late David Lamptey, a former advisor to the late President John Evans Atta Mills and Chief Executive Officer of SIDALCO. Mr Debrah is said to be the chief architect of the NDC media agenda.
The plan was to link all pro-NDC radio stations to push the party’s grand propaganda agenda through XYZ. However, with Radio XYZ also closed for operating illegally, Mr Debrah has established Power FM, which now has Mugabe Maase, and linked it up with the party’s several radio stations dotted across the country. Mr Debrah is actually the financier and power behind Power FM.

The media houses include EIB Network, owned by Dr Kwabena Duffour, former Minister of Finance, which operates GhOne TV, Starr FM, which are seen to be objective, Agoo TV, Kasapa FM, all in Accra, and Agoo FM, in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
Also included is Class Media Group, owned by Seidu Agongo, which operates CTV, Accra FM, Kumasi FM, Radio Tamale and Class FM.
Other media houses are Ahotor (92.3) FM, belonging to the party’s National Chairman, Samuel Ampofo, Volta 1 TV and some social media platforms such as Radio Gold on Facebook and Woezor TV on Twitter and Facebook.
