The Northern Regional Security Council has sent a strong word of caution to individuals and groups that are bent on fomenting trouble in the region following a damning audio recording circulating on social media in which some persons are heard fuelling conflict between Nannumbas and Dagombas.
According to REGSEC, these faceless persons are using social media to create chaos in the region.

A press statement signed by the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, who doubles as the Chairman of REGSEC, said: “The attention of the Northern Regional Security Council has been drawn to viral audio recording circulating within social media and the general public seeking to impugn the integrity and character of very prominent traditional rulers in Dagbon, over a misunderstanding on the land ownership of the Jagbuni community.”
“REGSEC condemns in no uncertain terms, the unsavoury utterances made in the said recording and views it as a threat to the prevailing peace in both Dagbon Nanun and also the Northern Region as a whole,” the statement added
The statement appealed to all well-meaning people, especially revered traditional rulers whose character and integrity have been impugned in the recording, to disregard the contents and treat it with the utmost contempt.
“REGSEC in that vein calls for restraint as the matter is being dealt with by the security agencies,” the statement indicated.
Law will catch up
The Northern Region Security Council promised that whoever made those utterances in the recording would be dealt with in the strongest term in accordance with the law when apprehended.
“REGSEC further takes the opportunity to send a strong signal to any individual or group that is engaged in any similar audio or video recording that can jeopardize the peace in Dagbon and Nanun or any place in the region that security agencies have been alerted to deal decisively with such recordings. Such persons will definitely not be spared. Any person or group found to have engaged in any such recording will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
It added: “In the meantime, REGSEC, at its emergency meeting…, resolved to meet with the Overlord of Dagbon and Nunun as well as the Mion Lana to find lasting solution to the misunderstanding over the ownership of Jagbuni lands.”
REGSEC appealed to the chiefs and people of the two traditional areas to exercise restraint and rather strengthen their age-long brotherly bond, which has seen them co-existing since the establishment of the Gbewaa Kingdom.
“Indeed, Dagombas and Nunumbas are brothers and sisters and nothing will be tolerated to disturb that bond,” the statement held.
The press statement concluded that REGSEC will continue to take measures that will ensure peace and security at all times for people to go about their normal duties in the region.
