IGP Dampare and a team of Police officers

The Ghana Police Service has released a statement assuring the public of robust security arrangements for the Kumawu Constituency bye-election, scheduled to take place tomorrow, May 23, 2023. The police are committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring peace and security before, during, and after the electoral process.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the bye-election, an adequate number of police personnel has been deployed to Kumawu and other communities within the Constituency. These additional officers will support the local police force in providing comprehensive security coverage for the election proceedings.

In line with the security arrangement, the Police held a meeting this morning with the parties contesting in the election, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and one of the Independent candidates. The aim of the meeting was to enhance collaboration and promote peaceful engagement among all stakeholders. The NPP team was represented by its National Chairman and General Secretary, while the NDC team was led by its General Secretary and National Organiser. The independent candidate attended the meeting representing himself. Unfortunately, the other independent candidate could not attend the meeting.

The Ghana Police Service extends its assurance to the people of the Kumawu Constituency, urging them to carry out their normal activities freely, including exercising their civic duty of casting their vote. The public is encouraged to work together with the police to ensure a peaceful election and the safety and security of all.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, who serves as the Director of Public Affairs, emphasized the commitment of the police force to uphold law and order throughout the electoral process.

The police’s efforts to implement effective security measures reflect their dedication to facilitating a peaceful and fair bye-election in Kumawu. As the electoral day approaches, citizens are encouraged to actively participate and exercise their democratic rights while adhering to the guidelines provided by the police and electoral authorities.

The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in its mission to maintain a safe and secure environment for the citizens of Kumawu during the bye-election. The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, including political parties and the public, will be instrumental in achieving a successful and peaceful electoral outcome.
