A section of the ladies doing the 4more4Nana sign

Members of the NPP Staunch Queens, an all ladies group within the governing New Patriotic Party, have kick-started their campaign in earnest to help the party retain power in this year’s election.

The Akyem Oda Zone chapter of the group over the weekend took to the streets to educate the electorate on the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government.

Holding placards with inscription of some achievements of the administration, such as the Planting/Rearing for Food and Jobs (PFJ), Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), One District, One Factory (1D1F), One Million Dollar Per Constituency, Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), Free SHS, among others, the ladies interacted with a wide range of people in the Akyem Oda township to solicit for votes for the governing party.

“Nana Afa”

The group also educated the populace on some mitigating policies implemented by the government to help people in this trying times of the novel coronavirus.

Dubbed “Nana Afa”, an Akan phrase which translates as “Nana has taken it”, the ladies listed some interventions such as the supply of free water, free electricity, free WASSCE and BECE fees, free feeding for BECE candidates, stimulus packages for businesses, among others, as some cost on Ghanaians that “have been taken” by the government.

They therefore urged the people to reciprocate the good works of the government with a resounding victory for the NPP in this year’s general election.

85% for Nana

Zonal Commander for the group in the Akyem Oda Zone, Priscilla Oduro Antwi, speaking with the eveningmailgh.com, stated that the good works being carried out by the Akufo-Addo government demand that the people give him at least 85 per cent of the total votes from the area.

President Akufo-Addo, during the 2016 general elections, had 75.8 per cent of the total votes cast in the Akyem Oda constituency; 72.5 per cent in the Achiase constituency; and 75.0 per cent in the Akyem Swedru constituency.

According to Ms Oduro Antwi, the average of 75 per cent Nana Akufo-Addo had in the zone at a time that he was not a president suggests that, with a dint of hard work, coupled with the stellar performance of the administration, the party can get an average of 85 per cent in the area.

“We owe it a duty as a party to do this. We can do it. When he had not done anything, we had 75 per cent; now that aside from the global achievement, everywhere you look in this locality, you see the touch of the administration, we owe it a responsibility to win more,” she said.

Infrastructural development

She stated that under the NPP administration, asphalting of Akyem Oda town roads is ongoing; the killer Jubilee bridge that connects Akyem Aboabo to the main Akyem Oda township has been constructed; the Agona Swedru-Akyem Oda trunk road, which passes through the Asene-Manso-Akroso district, is under construction; while the Akyem Oda-Amanfopon road, which passes through the Akyem Swedru and Achiase constituencies, is also under construction, among several other infrastructural project ongoing.

“All the senior high schools in this area, from Attafuah SHTS, ODASCO, Akim Swedru SHS, Achiase SHS, Aperade SHS, have all seen infrastructural development. It is the reason why we cannot rest until we have given Akufo-Addo 85 per cent,” she said.

She added that while campaigning for the President, they are also focused on ensuring that the party retains all the parliamentary seats in the zone.
