Nana B addresses the media

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye, has thrown a challenge to the opposition National Democratic Congress to showcase what former President John Dramani Mahama and his government did for the development of the youth of the country.

Speaking in Kumasi at the NPP youth wing’s ‘The Youth Must Know Series’, he gave a one-week ultimatum to the NDC to prove its worth, by telling the nation the creative policies Mr Mahama and his government implemented to better the lot of the Ghanaian youth.

In comparison, the NPP National Youth Organiser catalogued a number of youth developmental programmes and policies embarked upon by the Akufo-Addo led administration in less than four years.

He stated that the NPP in its first term of office has been able to do a lot for the youth through the Youth Employment Agency, Nation Builders Corp, Presidential Youth Support, Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Food and Exports, among others.

60 and counting

According to Nana B, as the NPP youth organiser is popularly called, the Akufo-Addo government has implemented 60 life-changing programmes and policies whilst some 50 factories have been opened and running.

He said through the Nation’s Builders Corps (NaBCo), some 100,000 young people have gained employment, while the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has also employed over 70,000 young people.

Again, Nana B said other YEA initiatives, including the Job Centre platform, Region Flagship Projects and the Artisan Directory, have enabled thousands of young people across the country to secure sustainable jobs in the short to medium term.

The rest of the policies, he added, include the recruitment of 7,700 youth under Educational Support Programme, under Ghana Education Service and YEA; recruitment of 54,000 nurses; recruitment of 18,000 other health workers; recruitment of 1,174 environmental health officers/ assistants; recruitment of 2,700 extension officers; recruitment of over 12,000 security personnel; and the investment and jobs being created under Ghana Automotive Development Policy.

Others, he added, include the creation of 105,350 jobs in the cocoa sector; 83, 000 youth also employed by the Forestry Commission; while some 12,000 youth have also been trained in start-ups and small business.

Again, some 12, 000 youth have been provided with funding to expand their businesses in order to create jobs, under the Presidential Business Support Programme.

Presidency serious business

According to the NPP National Youth Organiser, the performance of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, so far, is an evidence that the NPP government has promoted the youth and has their development at heart.

Touching on former President Mahama’s comeback bid, Nana B noted that presidency is not an avenue to correct mistakes, and wondered what new things the former President will be bringing on board in the unlikely event that he wins the December 7 presidential election.

He said Ghanaians have seen the difference between the NPP and the NDC, and will make an informed decision on December 7 during the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Nana B said it is therefore not surprising that Ghanaians have bought into the “4 more for Nana! 4 more to do more” slogan of the NPP, saying “one good term deserves another.”

Youth Must Know Series

‘The Youth Must Know Series’ is a platform instituted by the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party to speak to issues of national interest and governance as a whole. Yesterday’s programme was the 5th edition.

Speaking to the Daily Statesman after the programme, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the NPP, Mr Dennis Kwakwa, said the series will afford the NPP government opportunity to tell its story to Ghanaians, especially the youth.

“We have a lot to tell the youth and generations to come that a president from the New Patriotic Party came to warm the hearts of Ghanaians and gave long-lasting solutions to their problems,” he said.
