Some 8,076 health professionals will be employed this year by the Ministry of Health following a financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.

A letter of clearance signed by Abena Osei Asare, Deputy Minister of Finance, states, “The Ministry of Health is hereby granted financial clearance to enable the Ministry post eight thousand, and seventy-six (8,076) Nurse Assistant Clinical and Nurse Assistant Preventive who completed in 2017 from various Public Health Training Institutions.”

The letter further directed the Ministry of Health to ensure that these health professionals have their documents processed in time and placed on the mechanized payroll to enable the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department effect payment of their salaries.

Recruitment

The NPP government says about 54,000 nurses and midwives have been employed since it came into office in January 2017. During President Mahama’s tenure, no single nurse was employed.

So far, some 2.2 million jobs have been created since the NPP assumed power, officials have said.

In total, 2,204,397 employees have been added in the employment space. The Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) alone accounts for about 1,593,000.

The latest Ghana Living Standards Survey has shown that unemployment in the country has reduced from 11.9 per cent in 2015 to 7.3 per cent in 2019.
