The Eastern Regional Health Directorate has begun testing and taking samples of police officers at the Koforidua District Police Command following the death of a 55-year-old police officer from covid-19.
The chief inspector was a station officer at the Central Police Station in Koforidua.

The exercise is to screen colleague police officers, civilians and the staff at the police clinic who made contact with the deceased inspector.
A team of health officials have begun testing and some samples have already been sent to the various testing centres in the country.

Death

The chief inspector died on Friday May 29 at the Eastern Regional Hospital where he was on admission. His death was recorded as one of the usual and natural death until sample results confirmed that the deceased was positive for coronavirus.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Eastern Region stands at 128, with three new confirmed cases from the New Juaben South municipality, as at the time of filing this report, according to records at the regional health directorate.

Re-open of AFCON facility

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has indicated that the Indian construction firm, AFCON Infrastructure Limited, where the first case of the pandemic was recorded in the Eastern Region, after a dozen of workers tested positive for coronavirus, will be reopened later this week.
He said the infected persons have recovered and discharged after they were treated. According to the Minister, it will be inappropriate to keep the facility under lock since the situation in the area has been contained.

“I understand that the factory of the AFCON Company will reopen later this week for work to start. With the help of the general public, the cases in the Eastern Region are contained; therefore it will not be prudent to keep the facility under lock.

“We certainly don’t have any basis to lock the facility after there are no new incoming cases; the infected persons have been well treated, recovered and discharged,” the Minister said in a media interview.
