Residents of Beposo, a farming community in the Denkyembour district of the Eastern Region of Ghana have registered their displeasure against the government for evacuating them from their land without any resettlement plan.

The aggrieved residents have therefore embarked on a peaceful demonstration to demand from the government a resettlement plan and a review of compensation packages for them.

The residents say they were evicted from their lands to pave way for the Ghana Oil Palm Development (GOPDC) Company to turn their area into an oil palm plantation to feed the GOPDC at Kwae Estate.

They have raised concerns on the “Government’s deliberate refusal to relocate the over one thousand residents after evicting them for the palm plantation” exercise.

In a petition presented to the management of GOPDC at Kwae Estate, Kade, the residents complained about Non-determination or negotiation for prices worthy of their property and farm produce, Denial of corporate social responsibility by the company, Delay of payment structure for their property destroyed etc.

They are therefore calling on all concerned stakeholders especially the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfuour, the Member of parliament for the Akwatia constituency, Ama Sey, and the District Chief executive of the area Seth Obirikorang to intervene on their behalf.
