The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Samuel Kwabena Awuku, has fulfilled a campaign promise to support the renovation of a six-unit classroom block at Konko Presbyterian Primary School, a 119-year-old educational institution in the Eastern Region.

The project, undertaken in partnership with the Okuapemman Fekuw of Europe, the United Kingdom and Ireland, forms part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and provide a more conducive learning environment for pupils.

Mr Awuku, popularly known as Sammi Awuku, said the completion of the project demonstrated the importance of translating campaign commitments into tangible development projects that directly benefit communities.

He explained that he pledged to support the renovation during his parliamentary campaign after identifying the need to improve the school’s classroom facilities.

The MP expressed appreciation to the Okuapemman Fekuw for responding positively to his appeal and contributing to the successful execution of the project.

He described the collaboration as an example of how partnerships between elected representatives and community organisations could accelerate development and address pressing infrastructure challenges.

Historic Educational Institution

Established 119 years ago by the Basel Mission, Konko Presbyterian Primary School occupies a significant place in the educational history of Akuapem.

The institution is associated with Edward Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s President during the Second Republic and father of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Its historical significance makes the renovation an important intervention in preserving the school’s educational legacy while improving facilities for present and future generations of pupils.

The project also highlights the potential contribution of diaspora associations to the development of educational institutions in their communities of origin.

MP Calls for More Community Partnerships

Beyond the renovation, Mr Awuku has appealed to old students, diaspora associations, corporate organisations and individuals to support development initiatives across Akuapem North.

He stressed that addressing the constituency’s infrastructure and social development needs would require sustained collaboration between government, elected representatives, community organisations and private individuals.

According to him, partnerships such as the one established with the Okuapemman Fekuw could help mobilise additional resources for education and other community development projects.

The MP particularly encouraged Ghanaians living abroad to maintain strong connections with their hometowns and contribute towards initiatives that improve living conditions and expand opportunities for residents.

He acknowledged that several communities across Akuapem North continued to face development challenges requiring collective intervention.

“There is more to do together for Akuapem North,” Mr Awuku stated, reaffirming his commitment to working with stakeholders to advance development throughout the constituency.
