In a first-ever move, the major celebrations to mark Ghana’s Independence Day celebration anniversary will take place in the Northern regional capital, Tamale.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo disclosed this when he delivered his third State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday.

“In order to reinforce and support the process of reconciliation and the restoration of peace in Dagbon, I have decided that this year, the official 62 Independence Day celebration will be held in tamale ion 6 March.

“This will be the first time in our nation’s History that the celebrations is being held outside out national capital of Accra and I am very much looking forward to it,” he added.

The government through a Commission of Chiefs led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, a new Ya-Na was enskinned for the people of Dagbon in January.

This brings to an end decades-old of feuding between the Abudu and Andani gates following the murder of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani in 2002.

The President who was in Yendi to witness the ceremony personally said he does not look to be awarded any accolades or special titles but was happy that the long years of feud have come to an end.

“It was a ceremony that many had despaired we will ever see but the new Ya-Na accepted by the two gates of Abudu and Andani was installed on that day.

“It brought to an end decades of feuding that laid low the proud and ancient kingdom of Dagbon. It was a happy day and it marked the long and tortuous journey and the hard grind on the part many people through the years.”

President Akufo-Addo hopes that the long-running feud that was a blight on Dagbon and Ghana, which had dragged down the development process in our country could be resolved with the installation of the new Ya-Na.

He said the time, energy and money spent on emotions during the crisis will be spent on bringing development to the people of Dagbon and make Dagbon and Ghana prosperous.
