The Anti-Robbery Task Force of the Ghana Police Service has shot and killed two suspected armed robbers at Manso Dawusaso, in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti region. The two were part of a gang that attempted to rob a gold dealer in the area.

The police also arrested one of the suspected robbers, while the rest managed to escape. They also took custody of a shotgun, a pistol and a taxi cap after the operations.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service said: “The Anti-Robbery Task Force of the Ashanti Regional Police Command in an intelligence-led operation shot two armed robbers who later died at the hospital. Another suspect, linked to the crime, Abraham Kwasi Tetteh, has been arrested whilst four others are being pursued.”

“We suspect that some of the gang members who escaped might have sustained gunshot wounds. We are therefore appealing to the public to volunteer information on anyone who is seen in or around Manso Dawusaso with noticeable gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station,” the statement added.

The statement further appealed to all health facilities in and around the Amansi District “to immediately report the presence of any individual or group of people with gunshot wounds to the Police.”

Attack

The Police explained that the suspected armed robbers forcibly invaded the house of the gold dealer, disarmed his private security guard and fired shots into the residence.

“At this stage, a police combat team, that had mounted 24-hour surveillance on the gang, returned fire to protect the innocent lives in and around the property. Four of the suspects managed to escape but the two who sustained gunshot wounds were arrested and sent to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival,” the statement read.

The statement further disclosed that one of the deceased robbers, known as Lukeman, had been granted bail by the Dunkwa Circuit court at an earlier appearance, and was scheduled to reappear on October 27, 2021, for allegedly robbing passengers on the Dunkwa-Ayanfuri highway.

“A manhunt is underway to track and arrest the four that escaped,” the statement added.

Assurance

While commending the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Afful Boakye, and his team for their commitment and hard work, the statement assured the general public of the resolve of the Ghana Police Service “to make crime undesirable to all criminals and all who might want to turn to crime.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says its personnel are working tirelessly to bring an end to the criminal activities in the country.

“We’re working hard to prevail against rising robberies,” the Acting Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, gave the assurance in a media interview.
