The China Branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party has called on Ghanaians to condemn statements made by leader of Glorious Wave church International Prophet Badu Kobi.
Prophet Badu Kobi in a five-minute video recording that has gone viral has stated that he will use his spiritual powers to overthrow the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from the seat of presidency spiritually for it to manifest physically.
The ‘man of God’ who prior to the 2016 general elections predicted defeat for then NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo also described the president as ‘clueless’ for seeing to the ‘collapse’ of Menzgold, a gold dealership company that has turned out to be a scam.
But in a statement signed by it communication director, Michael Amponsah, and copied to the Evening Mail, NPP China said they “find it very disturbing for some sections of the clergy with good numbers of citizens as followers to make such uninformed and unguarded remarks to the detriment of the reputation of the state locally and internationally.”
The statement said that NPP China believes the Prophet Badu Kobi “can continue with his spiritual activities befitting of his ways but to ‘overthrow’ a democratically elected government “physically” is criminal per our laws especially when he was heard describing Ghana’s constitution as ‘bogus’.”
They have therefore called on the security agencies, to as a matter of urgency, caution citizens who abuses freedom of expression to serve as a deterrent to other citizens who may be harboring such alien thoughts of government overthrow.
They have further called on heads of various religious bodies to eschew clueless comments but rather focus on their call to serve humanity and to promote the sound fragrance being enjoyed in the sociopolitical landscape of Ghana adding that “as much as the laws of Ghana enjoins free speech, such rights must be exercised with strict responsibility rather than nurturing “diarrhea mouths” that seek to promote hate and divisions clothed with religion.”
