Alhaji Manaf Osman, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the North Ayawasu constituency in Accra, who doubles as a member of the Ghana Hajj Board has launched a foundation, Lady Salamat 18 March Foundation, in honour of his late wife Salamatu Manaf who passed-on recently at the 37 Military Hospital during child birth.
The launch was at the funeral prayer session (Adua) of the late Salamatu Manaf and purposely established to educate pregnant women in Ayawasu North in particular and all Muslim Communities in Ghana as a whole on maternal mortality.
The event which was organized at the instance of Sheikh I.C. Quaye, Chairman of the Ghana Hajj Board, also had in attendance distinguished personalities such as Hon. Sadique Boniface, a Minister of state at the office of the Vice President, the General Secretary of the NPP Mr. John Boadu, members of the Hajj Board, Zongo chiefs, NPP party executives and members of the public.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice President Hon. Boniface spoke at length on drug abuse in the Zongos. Drug abuse, he says is having a devastating effect on the youth. He identified a drink called ‘High Tension’ made up of tramadol laced with other dangerous chemicals or substances.
He appealed to community chiefs, Imams, Islamic scholars, parents and opinion leaders to rise up and help government to fight this menace.
On his part Mr. John Boadu expressed his gratitude to all those who came out to commiserate with the bereaved family. “The impressive attendance is a clear indication of the love and trust in Manaf the widower and his late wife in the community and beyond.” He said.
A funeral prayer session for the deceased was said by Imams and members of the Ayawasu North Constituency under the supervision of Sheikh Mallam Isahaka a representative of the National Chief Imam.
