The Beniana Family in Fiankonya, a farming Community in the Ningo Prampram District of the Greater Accra region, are living in fear over constant attacks and harassment by some police personnel who they accuse of illegally encroaching on their farmlands through the aid of a real estate developer. They said the situation is affecting their livelihoods making life unbearable.

Addressing the press in Fiankonya a farming Community in the Ningo Prampram District, Family heard of the Beniana Family, Numo Moses Beniana, revealed that some 1,000 acres of an initial 1,173 acres of land which has been in their possession since 1912, has since been illegally taken over by one real estate developer, who has sold it out to some senior and junior police personnel without any due diligence. He said in their attempt to resolve the issue with the police hierarchy through the office of the Director of Police Welfare, COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, who directed the said estate developer to settle all outstanding issues with the Beniana Family, the situation has rather worsened with constant attacks and intimidation from some personnel developing in the area. He added that, the said estate developer who has since failed to heed to the police boss directive, has now teamed up with the police personnel developing on the land to intimidate and harass them with guns and machetes, anytime they step foot on the land to farm.

He called on the presidency and the interior minister to intervene in what he describes as the police shielding land barons who are perpetrating crime in the community.

Meanwhile the activties of the said estate developer cum police personnel is said to be affecting the livelihoods of members of the Fiankonya community, whose farm are being destroyed on a normal day to pave way for the construction of buildings. Ernest Tetteh who is the Youth Chief of the area, said most of he youths have deserted the community for lack of jobs and farming opportunities

Meanwhile the police Administration when reached said the issue is being under investigation, acting Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Stella Dzakpasu said due diligence will be done on the matter.
