The National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced opening of nominations for both parliamentary and presidential primaries last week. Nominations were opened for 36 constituencies in Ashanti Region with 11 constituencies on hold.
At the close of nominations, about 110 members had picked forms to contest to become the party’s parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Dr Frank Amoakohene, disclosed this at a programme organized by the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) branch of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network of the NDC (TEIN NDC)
“The NDC is very attractive and competitive. The calibre of candidates showing interest in the parliamentary contest gives us hope, as a party, for the coming elections. We have very competent workforce to drive the victory agenda for 2024,” he said.
Eastern Region
Meanwhile, the party has put on hold the conduct of elections in three constituencies in the Eastern region.
Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Baba Jamal, who disclosed this to the media, said the affected constituencies are Afram Plains South, Ayensuano and Akwatia.
Mr Jamal explained that the decision is to give the party ample time to prepare and resolve some internal issues in those constituencies.
He was hopeful the party will choose the best candidates to win many parliamentary seats and the presidential election in the upcoming 2024 general election.
Filing of nominations for parliamentary hopefuls took place between Wednesday, February 22 and Friday, February 24.
The party will hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, 2023, to elect a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 elections.
