Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader

The Minority Leader committed GHC200,000 for the support, which was paid through a scholarship scheme instituted by the Law Students Network (LSN), a pro–New Patriotic Party (NPP) students’ association at the Ghana School of Law.

Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has paid the fees of about 60 students pursuing their professional law course at the Ghana School of Law.

The support, which covers a range of needs, includes full payment of Professional Examination fees for some beneficiaries, while others received funding equivalent to one term’s school fees.

The Minority Leader committed GHC200,000 for the support, which was paid through a scholarship scheme instituted by the Law Students Network (LSN), a pro–New Patriotic Party (NPP) students’ association at the Ghana School of Law.

Convener of LSN, Abraham Kwaku Gyasi, who disclosed this to the media, noted that the initiative forms part of the Minority Leader’s commitment to supporting dedicated members of the NPP while promoting academic excellence within the legal education space.

The support targeted students who demonstrated loyalty to the Network, active participation, academic merit, and genuine financial need, and was intended to ease the financial burden on students and enable them to focus on their studies and professional development.

Integrity

Meanwhile, the Minority Leader has urged law students and young professionals to prioritise integrity, discipline, and character development as key foundations for leadership in law, governance, and public service.

He stressed that governance and leadership are ultimately shaped by the conduct of individuals who operate state institutions, noting that while Ghana has established strong constitutional and institutional frameworks, their effectiveness depends largely on the people who run them.

“Governance institutions can only deliver if the individuals who run them possess integrity, discipline, and conviction,” he stated, adding that without such values, even the strongest constitution could falter.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin encouraged law students to see themselves as future custodians of Ghana’s democratic and legal order, urging them to combine academic knowledge with discipline.
