The Advisory Council Chairman of the Iustum Center for Democracy and Governance (ICEDEG Africa), Nana Kwasi Asuman-Frimpong, has been adjudged winner of the Media (Digital and Social) category at the 2026 Forty Under 40 Awards Ghana.
Mr Asuman-Frimpong received the award at the ceremony held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The award recognises his work in digital media, particularly through the Evening Mail, a digital newspaper he founded in 2018 and which currently operates under ICEDEG Africa.
The Forty Under 40 Awards Ghana celebrates influential and accomplished young Ghanaian professionals and business leaders under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves through professional excellence, leadership, innovation and contribution to society.
From Media to Policy Advocacy
Mr Asuman-Frimpong currently chairs the Advisory Council of ICEDEG Africa, a governance and public policy think tank incorporated earlier this year with a focus on four thematic pillars: Justice, Consumer Protection, Democracy and Governance.
The organisation seeks to contribute to public policy discourse, research and advocacy while providing platforms for engagement on issues affecting governance and development.
The Evening Mail, which was previously owned by SayItRight Business Solutions, was transferred to ICEDEG Africa following the incorporation of the think tank, bringing the digital publication under the organisation’s broader governance and public policy framework.
Mr Asuman-Frimpong said the transition has provided a new institutional platform for the newspaper’s advocacy and public-interest journalism.
Eight-Year Journey
The ICEDEG Africa Advisory Council Chairman established the Evening Mail in 2018 from his room at Akuafo Hall at the University of Ghana, Legon, as a wholly digital newspaper.
He said sustaining the publication over the past eight years had come with considerable challenges, particularly within an increasingly difficult media environment.
“When I started the Evening Mail in 2018 from my room at Akuafo Hall, Legon, as a purely digital newspaper, there were many challenges and setbacks, but there have also been many successes,” he said.
Over the years, the publication has used its platform for advocacy in areas including environmental protection, human rights, justice, governance and consumer protection.
Mr Asuman-Frimpong said the Forty Under 40 recognition represented more than an individual achievement.
“Winning the Forty Under 40 Award – Media (Digital and Social) is not just a personal honour. It is a recognition of the work, sacrifices and people who have been part of this journey,” he said.
Recognition of Leadership
According to the organisers, the Forty Under 40 Awards is designed to identify and celebrate young achievers who have demonstrated leadership, innovation and measurable impact within their respective fields.
Mr Asuman-Frimpong dedicated the award to colleagues, friends, mentors and supporters who have contributed to his media and advocacy journey.
“To my friends, colleagues, mentors and everyone who believed in this vision, this is our win,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to those who supported and voted for him throughout the awards process.
The recognition adds to the growing profile of ICEDEG Africa as the organisation seeks to establish itself within Ghana’s governance and public policy space through research, advocacy and public engagement.
