A staff of As I Grow sensitizes community members

As I Grow, a non-governmental organization, says it has observed that the coronavirus pandemic has had a serious effect on people living in deprived communities across the country. This, according to the NGO, is due to the lack of basic social amenities, such as proper health care system, potable water, good transportation system, effective education on the pandemic, among others.
The director of the NGO, Debrah Bekoe Isaac, said this to the media over the weekend when the NGO embarked on sensitization in some communities in the Eastern Region.
He mentioned that the laid down protocols by the government and the Ministry of Health demand strict adherence, pointing out that due to lack of amenities, the people in some communities are unable to follow the protocols.
“Most of the populace have no knowledge about how to wear face mask and sanitize their hands as well. To make things worse, some of these people do not have money for food, which makes it difficult to even get some money to buy personal protective equipment,” he said.
Call for support
The NGO pointed out that interactions with some communities had shown that people do not seem to have knowledge on the dangers, symptoms and the nature of the pandemic.
It therefore called on individuals, other NGOS, philanthropists, among others, to visit such communities to educate them and support them with the provision of PPEs.
It further appealed to the various municipal and district assemblies (MDAs) and the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry to provide such areas with the needed amenities, especially in these trying times.
Mr Bekoe disclosed that the NGO has so far provided some support to some communities such as Krutiase, Miawani, Togodo, New Asuoya, Adebonsera and Obuodaso.
